Just posting this here to remind me the next time this error occours.
When trying to read my email using Evolution I got the error message “Failed to authenticate: The name :1.11 was not provided by any .service files”.
This error can occur if Evolution is unable to connect to one or more sub-processes, usually because the program has been closed without all the sub-processes terminating correctly.
To fix this force all the Evolution processes to be shutdown using the following command:
$ evolution --force-shutdown
