Access BIOS boot options using VMware Workstation

To access the BIOS you need to press ‘F2’ when prompted at the POST screen.

However, it can be difficult to press ‘F2’ in time, particularly if you are prompted to connect devices when the virtual machine boots. To make it easier to access the BIOS, you can edit the configuration file of the virtual machine (.vmx) and either force it to go into the BIOS at startup using:

bios.forceSetupOnce = "TRUE"

Or add a delay (in milliseconds) to cause the machine to show the POST screen for longer than normal which gives you more time to press ‘F2’ to access the BIOS.

bios.bootDelay = "nnnn"

Note – The maximum value for the boot delay is 10000 milliseconds (10 seconds).
